This was an interesting meeting, for both of us had to rethink back to a time when we were all locked away and life was so very different.
They originally moved into this house in 2006, it’s a semi-detached property with a loft conversion and 6 bedrooms. Eleanore described the property when they bought it, and at that time it had an old conservatory at the rear of the house, which she felt was wasted space and not used by the family. The priority was to upgrade the kitchen and they did that about 6 years after moving in. The style and layout of these properties are similar, with a living room at the front of the house, then a dining room and kitchen. The original owners had converted the loft space.
As the family started to grow, they wanted a more functional family space at the rear of the house and decided to contact Elivate to provide an initial visual and rough price to help them decide on affordability and what could be achieved with the space available.
They didn’t want the initial expense of an architect, if they then felt they wouldn’t be able to meet the financial obligations of the build, so this first consultation with Mark was critical for them in the decision to either go ahead or not. The other priority was to engage a company that fully project-managed the whole job.
Once the decision was made to go ahead, Elivate were engaged to Design and Build the rear living room extension. Eleanore didn’t want the traditional flat roof, single-story rear extension with bi-folds on the rear. They all worked closely to achieve the final design which has these imposing picture windows, which friends have commented are almost alter-like, with the vaulted ceiling and lighting.
Having sat in the space for our meeting, I can understand why they might say that, I loved the feature window and style of the space. It has a lovely warm feel, was bright and the energy was good. Eleanore has a lovely eye for style with a couple of simple feature pieces in the room.

Was it a good investment, good value for money?
Absolutely, 100% we now spend the majority of our family time in this room, we invested in underfloor heating so although it’s got a lot of glass it’s probably one of the warmest rooms in the house. We all love it.
